We met Alan from Tucson this morning. He walked past our site while we were drinking coffee. He told us all about his travels and opinions and more than we cared to know Nice man and a smart scientist too. But he didn’t leave for at least 30 minutes😑
After he left we decided to explore the US Forest service land across from the campground. We had been there last year but thought we’d take a different route. We scrambled on the base of the cliff face seeing all kinds of evidence of birds and other critters including humans. It’s so dry there that the ground crunched under our feet. Some plants and trees still manage to survive.
When we got back to the car and Simon we thought we’d drive some of the roads since the area is so big. They seemed to go on forever! We weren’t sure where we were so after 10 miles or so we turned around.
When we got back to camp there were huge storm clouds rumbling all around us. We decided to have lunch then pack up and head home since everything was dry. It’s a pain to pack up wet gear. We had lunch and packed up in one hour!
It took about an hour and 15 minutes to get home. So close yet a million miles away.
Tonight we are enjoying our home after a wonderful shower. These trips do so much for our souls. 🙂
